Winter Sky
Snow crunch echoes down the street as I break through the crust with my feet
into the snow that fell last the night to cover the earth I see at first light.
Sky is colored with blue orange and pink in streaks of light framed by the trees,
Trees so black against the sky, still sleeping from the dark of night.
Air so cold my breath is a fog that follows me as I crunch along
from house to house with the morning news I leave on their porch with the morning dew.
Starting in dark I walk the route crunching the snow as I circle the town
Till the sun appears to light the sky in glorious hues to please my eye
And for a moment I watch the display that makes morning cold fade away
Till it tweaks my nose and finger tips and I head for home to warm them a bit.
